Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of music does the band perform?
|
Within the traditional concert band format, the organization has developed a diverse repertoire. From Bach preludes and fugues to big band music, the Band is prepared to perform in nearly any location. Major band works by Grainger, Holst, Vaughan-Williams, Reed, McBeth and Mendelssohn are in the Band's library as well as marches by Sousa, King, Fillmore and Chambers. Show tunes and orchestral transcriptions are also a part of the Band's standard offering. Frequent appearances by guest soloists, both from within and outside the Band, add to the Variety in our programs.

How do I become a member of the All-America Concert Band?
 |
The All-America Concert Band maintains an "open door" policy. Any adult musician wishing to play is welcome without audition. Seating of the Band is determined by the conductor.
The prospective member must be past high school age and have a real desire to play. (High School Students are eligible for membership in some circumstances but they must be approved by the conductor of the All-America Concert Band as well as their high school band director.) The bottom line is "commitment". Attendance at all rehearsals and performances is not optional -- it's mandatory!
No dues are assessed to any member of the Band. Each person is responsible for obtaining the correct parts of the Band's uniform. It is understood that our appearance is a very important part of every performance.
Each band member supplies his/her own instrument with some of the percussion instruments being supplied by local schools. Special needs may be met by visiting with the Band's conductor.

We meet each Wednesday evening during the school year from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the South Sioux City Middle School or High School Band room at 3625 G Street in South Sioux City. The Band does not meet during the summer months.
